Disciplinary action sought against KAS officer

July 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - Hassan:

Congress leader and Hassan Zilla Panchayat’s KDP member G. Devaraje Gowda has demanded disciplinary action against E. Vijaya, KAS officer, who till recently worked as the Assistant Commissioner of Hassan sub-division.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Gowda alleged that during her days in office, Ms. Vijaya harassed poor farmers for bribe and flouted norms while handling land-related cases. She also did not hand over the charge to the new officer despite being transferred, Mr. Gowda alleged.

The KAS officer was transferred as administrative officer of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences last month. However, she moved the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal and got a stay on the transfer order.

Mr. Gowda alleged that the officer was transferred because of allegations of corruption. She had an understanding with a few department officials to make money by harassing farmers. “During her tenure, she issued hundreds of notices to farmers citing violations of Section 79 A and B of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act. The notices were issued only to make money,” he alleged. In some cases, Mr. Gowda alleged, the officer issued notices ignoring recent amendments to the law. “When she was transferred, she did not hand over the charge to another officer. Without applying for leave, she left the place,” he said.

Mr. Gowda said he had submitted a complaint to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms against the officer and demanded disciplinary action against her.
