Public sector oil marketing companies will roll out direct benefit transfer (DBT) of subsidy for domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumers in six districts of the State, including Bangalore Urban, from December 1.

Consumers, however, will get three months’ grace period to comply with the formalities of linking their Aadhaar number with LPG consumer number and bank account number.

As a part of its phase-wise introduction of the DBT, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has decided to implement the scheme in Bangalore Urban, Bijapur, Haveri, Davangere, Bidar and Koppal districts. The scheme is already being implemented in Mysore and Tumkur districts.

LPG consumers will have to pay the market price for the refill and the subsidy amount will be credited to their bank account through Aadhaar authentication.

Consumers have to provide their bank account details and Aadhaar number to the LPG distributor within the stipulated time — February 28. Subsidy will not be credited to the bank accounts of consumers who fail to comply. Aadhaar enrolment in the State, however, has not gained momentum and the coverage is about 50 per cent, according to the Unique Identification Authority of India. About 1.63 crore Aadhaar numbers have been issued in the State while 2.39 crore people have registered for enrolment as of now, according to the UIDAI.
