A sea of devotees thronged various temples in the district, including M.M. Hills, B.R. Hills, Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills, and Chamarajeshwara temple to perform special poojas on the account of “amavasya” on Monday.

A large number of devotees visited the M.M. Hills and performed rituals to Lord Mahadeshwara.

Devotees from across the district reached Kollegal town early on Monday and took buses to reach M.M. Hills.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) officials arranged for 85 additional buses to M.M. Hills following a shortage of buses to the shrine. Police personnel were deployed at various points to ensure smooth movement of traffic.

The M.M. Hills Development Authority had organised anna dasoha (mass-feeding) for the devotees. Drinking water and other basic facilities were also provided.

The Adi Shakthi and Maramma Temples at Shivanasamudram also attracted a large number of devotees ahead of the amavasya special pooja.
