Former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission M.R. Srinivasan has said that development of the nation should not be opposed in the name of environment.

Delivering the eighth convocation address of Siddaganga Institute of Technology on the premises of SIT in Tumakuru on Saturday, he batted in favour of the steel bridge in Bengaluru and said that the project should not have been opposed. It would have helped to ease the traffic congestion and there is technology to relocate trees uprooted for the purpose. If people of north India are told to go to Bengaluru for jobs or to start a business, they say ‘no’, citing traffic congestion.

He said that eradication of poverty is the biggest challenge before the nation. Poor people are unable to get drinking water, health care and other basic amenities.

Reservation

Mr. Srinivasan said development without the marginalised sections of society is not possible. Reservation and quota are very much necessary to bring them to the mainstream. Only then will overall development of the nation take place.

Driverless cars

If robots are used to run vehicles, more than 3 million people in the country will lose jobs, he said. The manufacturing sector has to be strengthened in order to create jobs for youths. He said there are lots of opportunities in Germany, Japan and other countries for young scientists.

Seer of Siddaganga Mutt Shivakumara Swami, President of Siddaganga Mutt Siddalinga Swami, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University K.Siddappa, Director of SIT Channabasappa and Principal of SIT Shivakumaraiah were present.
