‘Development not at cost of environment’

June 10, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:24 pm IST - Sirsi:

“Without awareness on environmental protection any economic development is meaningless. Development in all fields should be pro-environment,” said the former Union Minister, Jairam Ramesh, participating in a programme titled “Vraksharopana” on the premises of Shriniketana School at Islur in Sirsi taluk recently.

“There is serious discussion on the new economic policy of the country. But nobody is discussing about environmental care and protection which is the need of the hour,” he said.

“We worship nature but have no concern towards its conservation. There are policies to protect forests. But no one is able to control forest encroachment,” he added.
