‘Develop the swimming pool in Dharwad’

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - DHARWAD:

Amateur swimmers here have expressed concern over the pathetic condition of the municipal swimming pool here and urged the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) to take steps to develop it.

In a release, they said the swimming pool had been in a bad shape for the last few months due to lack of proper maintenance.

Injuries

Floor tiles had been damaged and iron rods were rusted in some places. Swimmers, particularly children, sustain injuries because of that.

The swimming pool, which is the only such government facility here, was closed for several years. Last year, it was reopened after temporary repair works.

The swimmers alleged that the municipal authorities had neglected the maintenance and the pool was getting back to its previous condition.

Practise

A large number of children, youth and others depend on this pool for practise. Pleas submitted to the municipal authorities to develop and maintain it did not help. The authorities should take up the issue seriously, they added.
