Wants farmers compensated for crop loss
Former Prime Minister and Hassan MP H.D. Deve Gowda has threatened to launch an agitation in front of residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here if the government fails to provide compensation to farmers who had lost crops due to drought, and ensure drinking water to residents of Hassan city.
Mr. Gowda told reporters that the government has not responded to his plea to supply drinking water to residents of Hassan from the Yagachi reservoir. An appeal was made to provide financial compensation to farmers of the district who had lost crops owing to scarcity of water. So far, no action has been taken up on this either.
The district administration too has not been responding to the grievances of the public, he alleged. He along with party workers would launch the agitation before the Chief Minister’s residence if the government continues to ignore the farmers’ demand for compensation for crop loss, Mr. Gowda said.
Mahamastakabhisheka
The former Prime Minister said he has appealed to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to ensure grant of ₹300 crore for the Mahamastakabhisheka festival in Hassan to be held in February 2018.
A sum of ₹ 170 crore was released for the Mahamastakabhisheka last held in 2006.
