Devanur, Doreswamy demand passage of KPME Amendment Bill

November 15, 2017 12:26 am | Updated 12:26 am IST - BENGALURU

Progressive writers and eminent citizens in the State, led by writer Devanur Mahadeva and freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to ensure the passage of the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill 2017.

The government is trying to push the KPME Bill, even as private doctors, who are up in arms against the Bill, are adamant that contentious four provisions in it be dropped.

Fearing that the government might tone down some of the provisions of the Bill, coming under pressure, the writers and eminent citizens addressed a letter to the Chief Minister, Health Minister Ramesh Kumar and all the members of the Legislative Assembly, urging them to ensure the passage of the Bill, “to stand by the vulnerable citizens and not give in to the private hospital lobby”. They expressed support to the Bill that seeks to regulate private hospitals, focussing on protecting the rights of patients, cost control and grievance redressal.
