The Udupi district police seized 40,000 detonators from a van abandoned at Tellar village near Karkala on Thursday.
According to a police official, the van was found abandoned on a “kacha road” under a tree in an isolated spot in the village. The police were checking all vans based on a tip-off, when they found the vehicle at 6.30 p.m.
The police said that the detonators could have links with the case of 82.54 tonnes of ammonium nitrate and 21,350 metres of safety fuse wire seized from seven places around Karkala on March 25 and 26. With Thursday’s seizure, the number of detonators seized in the last three days has gone up to 87,534.
