Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R.V. Deshpande on Thursday condemned BJP leader Arun Jaitley’s statement comparing the former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi to Hitler.
In a release, Mr. Deshpande termed Mr. Jaitley’s statement an attempt to mislead people and make political gains during the elections.
‘Contribution’“Comparing Indira Gandhi to Hitler is a perfect example of doing injustice to history and is also a reflection to Mr. Jaitley’s immature thinking,” he said.
“If he [Mr. Jaitley] had read history, he would have been aware of her contributions to India’s integrity, self-sufficiency, development and green revolution... ,” he said.
‘Nazi rule’On Mr. Jaitley comparing the Emergency to the Nazi rule, Mr. Deshpande said, “Before making this bizarre claim, he should have pondered over the complex political situation that forced Indira Gandhi to take some strong measures. It is amazing that he has recalled the Nazi rule but has blissfully forgotten the Godhra carnage!”
“Seasoned politicians like us should indulge in responsible politics and not make attempts to gain some cheap publicity,” he said in the press release.
