Dept. keeps its fingers crossed

The Department of Food and Civil Supplies is keeping its fingers crossed on the success of coupon-based kerosene distribution system aimed at preventing the misuse of the subsidy and ensuring that the consumers get the benefits.

Since many beneficiaries of subsidised kerosene hail from disadvantaged families and lack the required knowledge on technical operations, it has to be seen how the beneficiaries will respond to the reform.

“There are procedures involved in generating the coupon. It may cause some issues in the beginning, but the beneficiaries can become familiar once they get used to the new system. The beneficiaries can avail the help of citizen service centres in case they find difficulty in generating the coupon,” sources in the department said.

As the deadline for linking Aadhaar with the ration card had been extended till May 31, the beneficiaries have no option but to link their cards at the earliest to avail kerosene.

Beneficiaries can call helpline 1967 or the toll-free number 1800-425-9339 on finding difficulty in getting coupon.
