The Department of Health and Family Welfare has sounded an alert in Chittur village in Sorab taluk following the outbreak of dengue fever here. Thirty cases of fever and body ache have been reported in the village since June 8. Of these, the blood samples of four patients tested positive for dengue.

Following the outbreak, anganwadi workers and Accredited Social Health Activists conducted a door-to-door survey in the village to identify larvae-breeding centres and to create awareness on the need to maintain cleanliness. The larvae of Aedes Aegypti mosquito, responsible for the spread of dengue, were found in samples of water collected from many houses here.

A team of medical experts deputed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare is camping at the village. An ample stock of medicine has been maintained at the nearby primary health centre in Shigga village to treat those suffering from dengue. In the second week of May too, two positive cases of dengue were reported in Chittur.
