: Multiple barriers at critical areas where animal movement into human habitation is high on the forest periphery have effectively checked incidents of elephant intrusion over the years.
According to Forest Department records, there were 4,911 cases of crop compensation recorded in 2007–08, nine incidents of elephant deaths and six of human deaths in Bandipur National Park limits. This increased to 8,870 crop compensation cases in 2008–09 and 10 elephants deaths and four human deaths. But the number of cases came down to about 6,040 by 2009–10, 2,408 during 2010–11 and 6,278 in 2011–12.
This was due to installation of solar fences and digging trenches. However, there are large swathes of land where there are disputes over forest boundary and agricultural land.
