‘Declare Miraculous Cross shrine a national pilgrimage centre’

March 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - BELAGAVI:

Archbishop of Bengaluru Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras has urged the government to declare as national pilgrimage centre the site housing the Miraculous Cross shrine atop Nandgad Hill near Khanapur.

Speaking while offering special mass at the foot hill of the Miraculous Cross on Friday, he said thousands of pilgrims from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa flock Nandgad to pay their obeisance to the Miraculous Cross.

He would soon persuade government to declare the place as the religious centre of national importance and encourage spiritual tourism in this part of Karnataka.

Bishop of Belagavi Rev. Dr.Peter Machado along with a large number of priests concelebrated the mass held as the part of the Diocesan Day, which is observed here a week before the Good Friday.

Bishop Peter Machado said the “Miraculous Cross shrine at Nandgad is a memorial of the cross of Christ, a reminder of struggles, sufferings and deprivations which we bear and many a times conquer with the grace of Christ, who died but rose again.”
