Debt-ridden farmer kills himself

A farmer, who attempted suicide, died in the district hospital in Hassan on Saturday. Raje Gowda (50) of Hosapura village in Alur taluk consumed pesticide in his farm on Friday evening.

His relatives shifted him to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, where he died on Saturday.

The farmer has left behind his wife and two sons.

His relatives informed the press that the he had cultivated ginger in his one acre land in the village by borrowing a loan of Rs. 40,000 from a bank. Besides that, according to his relatives, he had borrowed nearly Rs. 2 lakh private lenders.

Alur Police have registered a complaint.
