Kannada writer Javare Gowda laid to rest

The last rites of noted Kannada writer D. Javare Gowda, popularly known as De. Ja. Gow., were performed at Kuvempu Trust in Mysuru on Tuesday.

The body was kept for public viewing at his residence in Jayalakshmipuram. Later, the body, accompanied by pro-Kannada activists and office bearers of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and others, was taken in a procession to Kuvempu Trust premises in Jayalakshmipuram.

Enroute, it was kept for a while at Kuteera, a room in Chandrakala Hospital, where De. Ja. Gow often stayed. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who arrived in Mysuru around noon, reached Kuvempu Trust and paid his last respects.

Last rites

The writer was laid to rest on Kuvempu Trust premises, next to the samadhi of his wife Savithramma.

The last rites were performed by his son and retired Vice-Chancellor J. Shashidhar Prasad.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Union Ministers S.M. Krishna and M. Veerappa Moily, besides a host of Kannada litterateurs, including S.L. Bhyrappa, paid their last respects.
