The State government has commenced a survey of losses of crops suffered due to the recent untimely rains in a bid to decide on the compensation, according to Minister of State for Agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda.
Replying to concerns expressed by the Opposition members that farmers have suffered huge crop losses due to the recent untimely rains, the minister said deputy commissioners of all the districts had been directed by the government on last Saturday itself to conduct a survey of the losses of all the crops in their jurisdiction.
The survey would cover the losses of not just standing crops, but also the crops that had been stocked by the farmers after the harvest, the minister said.
Earlier Leader of the Opposition, Jagadish Shettar said various crops including chilly, paddy, cotton, tur dal had been devastated in the recent untimely rains.
100 more residential schools
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister, H. Anjaneya announced that the State government would set up an additional 100 residential schools this year. The locations of new schools would be announced by January 2015, he said while replying to Congress member K. Sudhakar during the Question Hour.
