As nearly 50,000 students from the district get ready for the final year examination of the Pre-University Course commencing all over the State from Thursday (March 9 to 27), Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram sounded a warning signal to students and invigilators indulging in malpractices at the examination centres. He said stringent action would be taken against invigilators if they were found allowing malpractices by students.

Preparations to conduct the examinations were reviewed by the Deputy Commissioner in the presence of officials of the PU Education Department on Monday. Police Commissioner T.G. Krishna Bhat and other police officials were present. It was decided to impose prohibitory orders around all the examination centres to prevent malpractices and maintain peace. Use of mobile phones has been barred for all except the Chief Examination Superintendent and he could use it only for examination-related issues.

Examinations would be conducted at 77 centres, including 18 in Belagavi city. A total of 49,914 students, including 21,074 girls, would be appearing in the district this year.

The PU Department has constituted 22 flying squads to check malpractices. More squads at local levels would be constituted in each taluk. Sources said the question papers would be distributed through the treasury offices in Belagavi and Chikkodi.

Control room

Additional Superintendent of Police Ravindra Gadadi said addition security would be provided at the examination centres in other taluks of the district. A control room (0831-2405201) would be set up where matters related to malpractices or any other problem could be reported.
