Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra has warned that legal action will be taken against those who prevent the Dalits from entering the Muzarai temples in the district.

“Action will be taken if the complaints were lodged specifically”, he told a delegation which submitted a memorandum recently urging entry to Dalits in the temples.

“Denial of entry in to the temples to the Dalits is a bad practice. File the complaints against the persons who practice untouchability”, Mr. Thrilokchandra asked the delegation.

The leaders of the committee which has initiated a programme called ‘Grihapravesha’ under which Dalits given entry in to the houses of upper caste people, expressed grave concern about the practice of untouchability in the temples of Muzarai department.

G. Shivappa, a lecturer with Government College for Women in Kolar and the leader who initiated the ‘Grihapravesha’ concept, appealed the Deputy Commissioner to issue a circular to all the Muzarai temples directing allowing of Dalits in to the temples.

Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy, C.A. Ramesh, L.E. Krishnegowda were present among others.
