Davangere MP is Minister of State

G.M. Siddeshwar, who successfully won from Davangere Lok Sabha constituency for the third consecutive term, was sworn in as Minister of State in the Narendra Modi Cabinet on Monday evening.

Born in Bheemasamudra of Chitradurga district on July 5, 1952, Mr. Siddeshwar completed his SSLC from Bheemasamudra Rural Education Society. He married G.S. Gayatri and they have a son, G.S. AnithKumar, and daughter, G.S. Ashwini.

Mr. Siddeshwar has been Member of Parliament since 2004 after the demise of his father G. Mallikarjunappa, who was MP for Davangere for two terms. Being a businessman and an agriculturist by profession, he became popular in Chitradurga and Davangere districts for his philanthropy, and was noted for being an efficient and straight-forward politician.

Before becoming MP, Mr. Siddeshwar served the Bharatiya Janata Party in different capacities, including secretary of State-unit of the BJP, member of parliamentary consultative committee for Ministry of Human Resource Development and member of the parliamentary committee on Finance. He was also vice-president of Karnataka State BJP and member of parliamentary committee on Water Resources, on Finance and on a panel for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
