Datta tastes victory in Kadur

Janata Dal (Secular) leader Y.S.V. Datta won the Assembly elections from Kadur by a margin of 42,433 votes.

While he secured 68,733 votes, his nearest rival, Belli Prakash of the Karnataka Janata Paksha, got 26,300 votes.

Mr. Datta had lost the 2008 elections by a margin of 3,411 votes to the Congress candidate K.M. Krishnamurthy.

In the byelection held following the death of Krishnamurthy, Mr. Datta lost again, this time by a margin of 13,897 votes. Speaking to journalists soon after the results were out on Wednesday, he thanked the people of Kadur for their support. He said his victory was significant as he was not supported by money power, muscle power or caste factor.

“People of Kadur have shown the State that they voted without yielding to any inducement,” the Janata Dal (Secular) leader said.

Mr. Datta belongs to Brahmin community which has negligence presence in the constituency.
