With drought looming large over the State because of monsoon failure, this year’s Dasara festival will be a simple affair.

“The festival will be a perfect blend of simplicity and grandeur,” said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The government has earmarked ₹15 crore for the celebrations, compared to previous year’s allocation of ₹13.5 crore.

At a high-level meeting on Monday, he said the festivities would commence with traditional rituals for Goddess Chamundeshwari on September 21 and the nine-day cultural programme will also commence on the same day. The Jamboo Savari will be held on September 30, he said. On the chief guest, Mr. Siddaramaiah said 10 personalities have been short-listed and one among them would be finalised by weekend.
