This year’s Dasara flower show, one of the major attractions of the annual festivities here, will have new concepts to engross and educate visitors.
Even as preparation for the show at Kuppanna Park is under way, with only a few days for the festivities to commence from October 1, the Department of Horticulture and the District Horticulture Society, the organisers of the show, have set out to put up an impressive show that will be free from repetition of previous years’ concepts.
The special attraction of the show this year is the mock-up of ‘Gateway of India’ crafted in an array of flowers, mainly roses and orchids. Every year, the organisers put up one special display and this year’s unique display will it.
Replica of Tejas
Another highlight is the replica of Tejas, the country’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) which joined the fighter squadron of Indian Air Force (IAF) in July this year.
“Every Indian must be proud of Tejas, the indigenously designed fighter plane. We thought of crafting a replica in flowers,” said Dinesh, Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture, Mysuru. Speaking to The Hindu , he said that an agency with expertise in establishing new-age gardens suiting urban spaces has agreed to participate and put up demonstrations on terrace gardens which will be educative to the visitors.
The concepts will be useful for those wishing to develop gardens but lacking space at their houses. Within available space, how a garden can be designed on terrace and other places (including vertical garden concepts) within the premises will be demonstrated.
Besides roses, many types of exotic flowers will be used. The flowers will be replaced once during the show to ensure freshness, the officials add.
Food stalls will also be established at the venue.
