Vishnutirtha Kallurkar, a scholar, has said that understanding Dasa Sahitya and reciting the keertanas will help us overcome life’s pressures.

He was speaking after inaugurating a quiz on Dasa Sahitya for women bhajana mandalis, organised by the local Sri Gayatri Seva Samiti here on Sunday as a prelude to celebrating Women’s Day.

He recalled the contributions of Dasas, including Purandara Dasa, to Kannada literature. “Everyone is under pressures in day-to-day life. Understanding Dasa Sahitya and keertanas will be helpful in leading a peaceful life. There is a need to popularise Dasa Sahitya and encourage youngsters to evince interest in learning keertanas, music, dance and ‘desi’ cultural activities,” he said.

Srinivasacharya, Vittal Desai, and Ram Rao Kulkarni were the quiz masters.

Gajanan Bhajana Mandiali bagged the first prize while Bharati Pavaman Bhajana mandali and Vyasaraj Bhajana Mandali emerged second and third. As many as eight teams participated.
