Actor Darshan Toogudeepa, who was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on Friday after the police arrested him on charges of beating up wife Vijayalakshmi, was treated in three hospitals here on Saturday for ‘mild jaundice and asthma'.
Bangalore Central Prison authorities at Parappana Agrahara said they shifted the actor initially to National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) after he complained of breathlessness in the early hours of Saturday.
Problems crop up
“Mr. Darshan developed respiratory problems at 12.30 a.m. first aid was administered at the Prison Hospital. Later, based on the recommendations of doctors, we shifted the actor to NIMHANS,” an officer at the Bangalore Central Prison told The Hindu.
Darshan was treated for dehydration and exhaustion at the prison hospital on Friday midnight. However, he was later shifted at 3 a.m. to NIMHANS from where he was later referred to Victoria Hospital at 5 a.m. Doctors at Victoria Hospital detected bronchitis and referred him to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD) at 5.45 a.m., for further treatment.
RGICD Director Shashidhar Buggi told reporters that the actor was diagnosed with mild jaundice and asthma.
Darshan ahs been busy shooting for three films. “He is a heavy smoker because of which there is infection in his lungs, aggravating the asthma,” Dr. Buggi said.
“He has been suffering from asthma from childhood. His condition is stable,” said another doctor, who did not wish to be named.
Rockline Venkatesh, Muniratna, Jaijagadeesh, Naganna, Prem, Bullet Prakash and others from the Kannada film industry visited RGICD.
The tests were scheduled for the entire day on Saturday. A team of senior doctors is treating Darshan.
Also, doctors attending on him said Darshan will have to be in the hospital for the next three days to undergo treatment.
Meanwhile, Darshan's lawyers said a bail application will be moved before the jurisdictional magistrate on Monday as Vijaylakshmi had agreed before the magistrate to withdraw her complaint in the interest of the family's harmony.
