The members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Dr Ambedkar Wada) on Thursday burnt the copies of the state budget 2010-11 presented in the assembly by the Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa on March 5 terming the proposals as anti-dalit and opposing the decision to constitute committees under the leadership of the respective legislators to select the beneficiaries for different schemes under the Dr Ambedkar Development Corporation.
The members of the DSS who held a day long dharna outside the Vikas Soudha Complex housing the government offices in Gulbarga City staged a protest demonstration for a while on the road opposite to the vikas sudha and burnt the copies of the budget. The leaders of the DSS charged the state government of failing to concede the long pending demand for a separate directorate for implementing the welfare schemes announced for the scheduled castes.
They said the government had also failed to allocate the welfare funds for the scheduled castes as per their population in the state. The DSS also demanded the state government to give up the proposed move to delegate the powers of selecting beneficiaries to the committees headed by legislators of the schemes implemented by the Dr Ambedkar Development Corporation. “This would only help the followers of legislators and BJP supporters”.
