The demolition of the historic Ambedkar Bhavan, which housed a printing press in Dadar, Mumbai, has angered various dalit organisations and sparked off protests in the city and across the district.

Activists of Belagavi District Dalit Sangarsh Samithi and Jai Bhim Sena, among others, took out a procession and staged a protest at Rani Channamma Circle in the city on Wednesday. They burnt an effigy of the Maharashtra government. The activists shouted slogans condemning the demolition and against the Maharashtra government for its failure to prevent it and demanded punitive action against those behind the act.

Dalit leader Mallesh Chougule alleged that a statue of B.R. Ambedkar was also destroyed in the demolition. He submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding that those responsible for the incident should be arrested.
