Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje were among the protesters arrested in B.C. Road, near Bantwal, on the busy Mangaluru- Bengaluru National Highway, on Friday.

Mr. Kateel and Ms. Karandlaje were among those who took part in the protest on Friday called by Bharatiya Janata Party, Bajarang and other allied organisations against the assault of RSS activist Sharath on B.C Road on July 4. The protest was being held in violation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code, which is in force in Bantwal, Puttur, Belthangady and Sullia taluks till July 11.

A large number of policemen had been deployed on B.C. Road to maintain law and order. Police forces were brought in from different parts of the State as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was scheduled to take part in the Congress party convention in the outskirts of Mangaluru on Friday afternoon.

Following the congregation of protestors, the police arrested Mr. Kateel, Ms. Karandlaje and several representatives of organisations taking part in the protest.
