Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil has assured daily wagers of taking up the issue of modifying the Government Order (GO) dated September 19 on extending service facilities to daily-wage employees in government departments and local bodies.
Mr. Patil said he would take up the issue of modification because at present, daily wagers would not be eligible for facilities that are made available to permanent employees. He was speaking at the ‘Vijayotsava’ celebrations and the 81st birthday celebrations of the president of the Karnataka State Government Daily Wage Employees’ Federation K.S. Sharma.
Earlier, Mr. Sharma submitted a memorandum to the Minister seeking the government’s intervention in rectifying the anomalies in the G.O., which he said would otherwise create a ‘second-rate’ line of government employees.
Terming the guidelines in the G.O. as the “handiwork of a few bureaucrats”, the former Minister Basavaraj Horatti said he would raise the issue in the coming Legislature session if the government failed to fix it in the coming days.
