Daily wagers demand regularisation of services

July 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Mandya:

Asking the State government to fulfil their demands, the members of Karnataka State Government Daily Wage Employees’ Federation staged a protest here on Thursday.

Over 200 employees, working in different government departments, took out a march from the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and staged the demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Their main demand was that the government immediately implement the provisions of the Karnataka Daily Wage Employees Welfare Act, 2012 and the Karnataka Daily Wage Employees Welfare Act Rules, 2013. The government enacted the Act and Rules for the welfare of daily wage employees over three years ago. However, they remain only on paper, the agitators said.

Other demands

They also demanded employment on ‘compassionate grounds’ for the family members of daily wage employees, regularisation of services, equal pay for equal work, increase in wages, 100 per cent Dearness Allowance and HRA on par with permanent employees, annual increments and other social security benefits as per the order from the State government.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the State government, through the Deputy Commissioner’s office, requesting the fulfilment of their demands.

The association’s district president B.M. Appajappa, Chikkasiddaiah, Chandrappa, Vijayanand, Shankar, Venkatesh and others led the protest.
