Actor Salman Khan.

Actor Salman Khan.

To our question last fortnight: What is the secret of Salman Khan's perennial popularity with movie-goers even though his films are routinely trashed by critics, Padmaja writes: Salman Khan can play opposing characters with equal élan and ease. He can play an innocent person as well as a cruel man. Salman triggered the body building craze in Hindi films and continues to be the neighbourhood gym's No. 1 poster boy. But his blackbuck shooting and his mowing down of persons sleeping on the footpath have generated a lot of negative publicity.

Our question this fortnight: Does the Nikita-Darshan episode reflect the double standards of the film industry that bans the actress but lobbies around the actor?
