The State government’s move to bring in a cultural policy has been opposed by writer and former chairperson of the Karnataka Book Authority S.G. Siddaramaiah.
Speaking at a programme here on Sunday, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the government’s plan to formulate the cultural policy is a dangerous development as there is the danger of cultural policies being changed with the change in governments.
He said that any government which comes to power must work in such a way that it did not affect secularism and hence, the government must be careful while framing a cultural policy.
He said that one has to see how textbook content changed when political power was in the hands of communal forces.
He cited the example of Adolf Hitler who introduced a cultural policy after he came to power and then misused that policy resulting in the killing of Jews.
He said that there is always a possibility and the danger of a cultural policy being misused leading to the killing of people. He said that academies are working according to the Constitution and there should not be any interference with them.
