The four-day Dharwad Samskrutika Janotsava concluded here on Tuesday with the screening of award-winning Kannada film ‘Maadi Madidavaru’ directed by K.M. Shankarappa.

The film, based on a story penned by novelist Basavaraj Kattimani, lays bare the various stages of the freedom struggle. Speaking at an interaction, writer Sunanda Kadame said that the film made one realise the sacrifices that ultimately led to an independent India.

Ophthalmic surgeon N. Vasudhendra of Medical Service Centre highlighted the role of women in the Indian freedom struggle.

Various troupes from across the State and college students presented different cultural programmes, including plays, during the four-day ‘Samskrutika Janotsava’, where another off-beat film ‘Beli Mattu Hola’ directed by T.R. Ramadas Naidu was also screened.

Kinnari Mela Rangatanda of Tumari staged a children’s play ‘Gopi Gavai Bhaga Bhajantri’ directed by K.G. Krishnamurthy.
