In continuation of a meeting on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) involving representatives of industries here recently, the district administration on Friday held another programme with the heads of banks.
Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha presided over the meeting. Heads of about 20 major and minor banks attended it.
The focus was on conceptualising and implementing CSR initiatives to improve basic amenities and implementation of Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna (SAGY).
The bankers were informed about the yojna under which Karimuddanahalli gram panchayat of Hunsur taluk in Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency and B. Matakere gram panchayat of H.D. Kote taluk in Chamarajanagara Lok Sabha constituency are to be developed as model panchayats. The Deputy Commissioner has been appointed nodal officer for the scheme.
Works for Rs.1,71,75,000 had been allotted to banks through voluntary consent. Basic amenities such as building of toilets for schools, installing permanent drinking water facilities, and providing books for libraries and computers was agreed to be taken up within a month.
At the meeting, the banks were asked to take up the responsibility to fill the existing gaps in government schemes in these gram panchayats. “The response by banks was encouraging and have agreed to take up various activities,” Ms. Shikha said.
