Residents of nearby villages and hundreds of politicians across parties turned up at the farmhouse of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at T. Katur village, where the last rites of his son, Rakesh Siddaramaiah, were conducted on Monday evening.
Several people, who were unable to make it for the public viewing at Karnataka Exhibition Authority grounds earlier in the day, were seen making their way to the farmhouse holding floral wreaths.
Temporary tents were erected outside the farmhouse, where the body was kept for public viewing for about half an hour before it was taken inside. Mr. Siddaramaiah acknowledged the condolences offered by the public by waving at them.
The last rites were not open to the public and a heavy posse of police personnel was posted outside the farmhouse.
Family members, close friends and relatives, besides Ministers, MLAs, and senior bureaucrats were present.
Traffic control
Police placed barricades at various junctions en route to T. Katur via Udbur in a bid to divert traffic from the farmhouse.
Though Mr. Siddaramaiah’s family hails from Siddaramanahundi, situated on the road to T. Narsipura from Mysuru, the last rites of Rakesh were held on the 7.5 acre farmhouse in T. Katur, situated about 20 km from Mysuru near Udbur in Mysuru taluk, bought by him five years ago. Sources said Rakesh had developed the farmhouse with a lot of interest.
The general public
was barred entry into the farmhouse, where the last rites of Rakesh were performed
