A crocodile often sighted at Kukkarahalli lake was found dead on Sunday.

The carcass was sighted by morning walkers who informed the Forest Department. The department personnel reached the spot and fished out the body of the animal from the water.

V. Karikalan, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF), said the crocodile was an adult and had apparently starved to death.

A post-mortem was conducted close to the lake-bed. It indicated that the reptile’s stomach was empty and there were three tiny stones inside.

The samples of the viscera have been sent to the laboratory in Mysuru for analysis to ascertain if the reptile had contracted any disease. The carcass was later buried in the lake precincts.
