The CPI(M) has welcomed the action of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in arresting the former Minister G. Janardhan Reddy. It urged the CBI to arrest his brother, G. Karunakara Reddy, and the former Minister B. Sriramulu as well.
Though there was a delay in taking action against those involved in illegal mining, the CBI had made a beginning by arresting the “kingpin”, it said.
Talking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Maruti Manpade, State secretariat member of the CPI (M), said it was surprising that the CBI had spared Mr. Karunakara Reddy and Mr. Sriramulu. He also demanded the Union Government seize the wealth of all these political leaders.
Mr. Manpade hoped that at least now law and order would prevail in Bellary, which was under the grip of the Reddy brothers and Mr. Sriramulu. The situation was so bad that even top officials were not allowed to do any work without the permission of the trio, he alleged. The CPI (M) also alleged that the Government was not showing interest in implementing the Lokayukta report. It urged the Government to initiate action against the officials whose names figured in the report.
Mr. Manpade said the CPI (M) would hold a meeting on September 13 to discuss ways to put pressure on the Government to implement the Lokayukta report.
