The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday quashed the appointment of G.R. Jagadeesh, principal of CBR National College, Shimoga, as the Dean, Faculty of Law, in Karnataka State Law University (KSLU).

Justice L. Narayanaswamy passed the order while allowing a petition filed by P.D. Sebastian, an Associate Professor at SDM College of Law, Mangalore.

Vice-Chancellor of the KSLU appointed Mr. Jagadeesh as Dean for a period of two years from June 11, 2012. It was contended in the petition that as per the Section 22 of the KSLU Act, a professor in each faculty, according to seniority by rotation, should act as dean of the faculty for a period of two years.

Petitioner’s counsel Sudhakar Pai contended that the petitioner has 29 years of teaching experience and is the senior most member of the faculty of law, while Mr. Jagadeesh has only 23 years of experience.

Meanwhile, the university submitted to the court that it has not prepared the seniority list of the faculty members.

Following this, the court allowed the petition, while permitting the university to prepare the seniority list and appoint a dean as per Section 22 of the KSLU Act.
