Court asks BBMP to file status report on new garbage contracts

December 04, 2012 09:12 am | Updated 09:12 am IST - Bangalore:

The Karnataka High Court on Monday asked the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to submit a status report with regard to the contracts awarded to the new bidders for garbage collection and transportation.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B.V. Nagarathna issued oral direction in this regard to the counsel for the BBMP during the hearing on the petitions filed by the existing contractors.

During the hearing, a counsel for the old contractors claimed that none of the new contractors had started working though they were supposed to take over the work of garbage collection and transportation within 15 days from the date of issuance of work orders. However, the BBMP counsel told the court that notices have been issued to them to demonstrate their ability to carryout the work. Following this, the court adjourned further hearing to December 12.
