A patrolling party of the Indian Army found a country weapon within the historical fort under the Market police station limits of the city on Thursday morning.
On the receipt of information, police officials rushed to the spot and took custody of the pistol, which was in a rotten condition.
Police said an army personnel, Bhushan Bajirao, found the pistol near the entrance gate of the fort close to Bharatesh School during a routine morning patrolling duty. He alerted his senior officials immediately, who subsequently informed the Market police.
Police said the pistol seems to be very old. A case has been registered under Section of 102 of Cr.PC and Section 25 of the Indian Arms Act and further investigation has been taken up.
