The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has resumed the demolition drive to clear the encroachments on parking places here on Sunday.

HDMC Commissioner Noor Mansur and other senior officials oversaw the demolition process. The HDMC had launched the demolition drive here on Thursday. While the drive did not take place on Friday on account of May Day, on Saturday, the HDMC officials did not carry out the demolition drive following Governor Vajubhai Vala’s visit to the University of Agricultural Sciences. On Saturday the drive did not take place as the police force was not available, the officials said.

On Sunday, HDMC officials demolished the pavement areas of M.H. Mahindrakar Annex and Agadi Complex buildings in Haledalal Market here. The officials said that in the blueprint of the complex the owners of these buildings had submitted, adequate space was proposed for two-wheeler parking. However, after getting the completion certificate they allegedly encroached on the parking lot and constructed godowns and shops. As these complexes figured in the list of buildings constructed by violating the norms specified in the KMC Act, the HDMC had issued notices to the owners to demolish the structures and create parking lots. But the building owners failed to respond to the notice. Additional police force was deployed and traffic was diverted.
