The Karnataka State Mango Development Corporation chairperson Kamalakshi has said the corporation is contemplating providing compensation to mango cultivators of Kolar and Chickballapur districts, where mango trees are withering due to shortage of water.

She was participating in a workshop on using Italian sprayer ‘Boomer’ at Krishi Vignana Kendra at Kurubur in Chintamani on Friday.

The new machine is likely to become a boon to mango cultivators and the corporation will try to provide them at concessional rates to farmers, Ms. Kamalakshi said.

The corporation has earmarked a grant of Rs. 1 crore for guidance, technical training and financial assistance to the mango growers, she said.

V. Nache Gowda, Dean of College of Horticultural Science, Kolar, said the machinery would save up to 40 per cent water while spraying insecticides.

Chickballapur Mango Growers’ Association president K. Srinivasa Gowda suggested providing the machine on rent basis to farmers.

Sampath was the resource person at the demonstration of the machine.
