A copper idol of Gautam Buddha was found in an agricultural field at Nagarmunoli village of Chikodi taluk on Raibag Road, on Thursday evening.

Shivamogi Krishna Bane, a farmer, found the idol while he was excavating his land to construct a pond. After digging a few feet, Mr. Bane was thrilled to find the idol. As the news spread, a large number of people from the village thronged to his field.

On learning about the incident, Chikodi Tahsildar Chidamber Kulkarni rushed to village in the evening and seized the idol and deposited it at the Taluk Treasury office in Chikodi town. He has also informed the authorities of Department of Archeaology and Museums at Dharwad to ascertain historical significance of the idol.

Mr.Kulkarni told The Hindu that the idol was made of copper and measured less than one feet, around eight inches in height.
