Panditrao Chidri, Chairman of the Karnataka State Sheep and Wool Development Corporation said that the Corporation was contemplating to adopt single window system to develop sheep and wool industry by bringing different schemes of various departments under the Corporation ambit.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said that at present, various departments such as Zilla Panchayat, Social Welfare Department, Animal Husbandry and SC/ST Development Departments have numerous schemes for sheep and goat farmers.
“Since these schemes have spread in various department and some of them are similar, leading to duplication of the scheme, it is better if all these schemes are given to our Corporation which help in implementing the scheme effectively through a single window system”, he said.
Mr. Chidri said that after conducting tour of all thirty districts of the State, he would submit the report to the government seeking approval.
Stating that many sheep and goat farmers do not have proper information about various schemes being launched for them by the Government, he said that the Corporation plans to hold Shepherds’ convention in each district of the State by inviting at least five thousand farmers.
After which, a State level convention would be held in the second quarter of 2015 in Davangere in which, several demands would be put forward to the government.
Admitting that thrust was not given on scientific research for developing improved varies of sheep and goat, Mr. Chidri said that the Corporation wishes to produce sheep and goat that has higher meat quantity to meet the growing demand for mutton.
Mr. Chidri said that considering the shrinking grazing land the State, the Corporation was promoting concepts such as ‘Stall Feeding’ in which the sheep and goats were supplied with nutritious fodder inside the shed.
He said that research would also be conducted in manufacturing soft wool as the present wool was hard, the products such as blankets manufactured from the hard wool was not gaining popularity.
