The former Minister and MLC B.J. Puttaswamy on Wednesday said that Muslims were not minorities in the country and that the Constitution has not categorised them as a minority community.
Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Puttaswamy said that members of the Constituent Assembly, including those from the minority communities, had opposed minority status to Muslims.
Despite all this, the Congress has been appeasing Muslims thereby creating a divide between Muslims and Hindus, he said.
He said that the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre has been doling out several programmes to Muslims, including implementing 75 of the 175 recommendations of the Rajendra Sachar committee, the Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for Muslims and spending 15 per cent of the Central Plan outlay for Muslims. Implementing the reports of the Sachar committee and the Ranganath Mishra committee for Muslims would be against the right to equality guaranteed by the Constitution, Mr. Puttaswamy said.
The MLC said that as the Congress with its minority appeasement policy is dividing the country on communal lines, it is necessary to save India from disintegration.
The only leader who can save the country from disintegration is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Mr. Puttaswamy said.
