R. Prasanna Kumar, MLC and president of Shivamogga District Congress Committee (SDCC), has said that his party would come to power on its own in the Shivamogga Zilla Panchayat.

The SDCC had chosen its candidates for the election after eliciting the opinion of local units of the party. In some constituencies, a few Congress activists, disappointed over denial of tickets, were contesting as rebel Independent candidates. The party leaders were trying to convince such rebel candidates to withdraw and work for the victory of party candidates, he said at a press conference here on Thursday.

The party would highlight the schemes launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden. The victory in the recent election for Legislative Council from Shivamogga local authorities constituency had boosted the morale of Congress activists. The party would secure a similar success in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections too, he said.Party functionaries Kalagodu Ratnakar, S.P. Dinesh and Ismail Khan were present. Meanwhile, B.G. Nagaraj, president of Hosanagar taluk unit of the Janata Dal (Secular), joined the Congress on the occasion. Mr. Kumar welcomed Mr. Nagaraj by offering the party flag to him.

We will highlight the schemes launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden.
