‘Congress will make efforts to curb corruption'

External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna paid a brief visit to the city on Sunday to participate in a private function.

He arrived by helicopter from Bangalore to attend the wedding of Nanjangud MLA V. Sreenivas Prasad's daughter in the city. Mr. Krishna was received at the helipad by Mayor Pushpalatha Chikkanna and District Congress Committee president C. Dasegowda among others.

In a brief chat with presspersons, Mr. Krishna referred to the recent public rallies across the country against corruption and pointed out that people were fed up and frustrated with the menace in all walks of life. The Congress would use all its strength to eradicate the scourge, he said. .

Referring to the recent developments in the State politics, Mr. Krishna said they should serve as a wake up call to other political parties.

He said the Congress had vested him with certain responsibilities at the national level and all his attention was focussed on them. Hence, there was no question of his returning to the State politics, he clarified.

He also visited Chamundi Hills and offered prayers at Chamundeshwari temple.
