Congress’ turn to shift councillors to resorts

September 04, 2015 03:22 pm | Updated March 28, 2016 03:25 pm IST - BENGALURU:

After the Janata Dal (Secular), it is the Congress’ turn to shift its councillors to resorts to prevent horse-trading by the rival BJP. The party has decided to shift all its 76 councillors to resorts or hotels in the city on the eve of elections to the posts of Mayor and the Deputy Mayor in the BBMP council, said Congress MLA S.T. Somashekar.

“We will shift our councillors to resorts or hotels in the city. BJP leaders have already been making calls to four or five councillors, offering crores of rupees if they resign their seats to ensure bye-elections,” he said.

BJP leaders contacted a Congress councillor of Yelahanka and offered payment of Rs. 2.5 crore, he alleged. This particular councillor, who quit the BJP a few years ago, had joined the Congress and won the seat against the BJP, he said.

The MLA said that councillors would be divided constituency-wise and shifted to different hotels in the city before the elections to the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The elections will be held on September 11.
