The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Monday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa after his cabinet colleague H. Halappa resigned as the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies over allegations of sexual assault.
Hundreds of Congress workers, led by opposition leader in the state assembly Siddaramaiah and KPCC President R.V. Deshpande, staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue here alleging there was no protection for women under BJP rule.
“The Chief Minister should quit and dissolve the state assembly”, Mr. Siddaramaiah said.
He demanded that an FIR be filed and Halappa be arrested.
He accused Yeddyurappa of giving a clean chit to his former minister and asked “if this is the case, how can the police act against Halappa?”
