Congress, JD(S) win top posts in Yadgir TP

The Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) won the elections to the posts of president and vice-president of the Yadgir Taluk Panchayat here on Tuesday.

Bashu Rathod of Congress, who represents the Hattikuni ward, and Ramalingamma of the JD(S), who represents the Ajalapur ward, were elected president and vice-president, respectively. Both of them secured 17 votes.

Durgesh R., Assistant Commissioner of Yadgir Sub-Division, who is the election officer, declared the results.

Of the 31-members House, the Congress has 12 members, the Bharatiya Janata Party 14 and the JD (S) five. The BJP fielded Sakhilal and Shameena Begam, for the posts of president and vice-president and they got 14 votes each. Mr. Rathod told presspersons that tackling the drinking water problem in the taluk would be his top priority.
